Open up your favorite Notepad application and create a bat file to register ASVid.ax (see code below). The Arcsoft Video Decoder (ASVid.ax) should be located under C:\Program Files\Arcsoft\TotalMedia Theatre 5 (or 3 if you are using that version)\Codec

Otherwise install TMT (either TMT3 or TMT5, trial or full version if you have a license)

If you already have TMT installed on your PC you can skip this step. This simply gives you access to the TMT codecs (which you can continue to use after the trial expires).

Once the trial version ends unless you purchase a license TMT will no longer work. I want to make it clear that this is in no way altering or cracking TotalMedia Theatre. You can still do this on an 圆4 system but you must use x32 players. This will also work with Arcsoft TotalMedia Theatre 3. I tested with both the trial and the full version which I do own. Windows 7 x32 core i5 HTPC and Windows 7 圆4 core i5 Laptop. Right now the solution that has given me the best results when using any directshow player (such as MPC HC, XBMC DSPlayer, etc…) is to use the Microsoft Video Decoder for H264 content and the Arcsoft Video Decoder for VC-1 content. If your processor can handle playback this may not be an issue, but ideally you want to use DXVA wherever possible as at a minimum this should lead to less heat and better energy consumption since the processor is not being pushed. The Microsoft video decoder had no issues with H264 content however with VC-1 content you would lose hardware acceleration (DXVA). It turns out that the issue was due to Intel’s graphics not working well with directshow filters such as the ffdshow video decoder or the MPC video decoder. HD Audio bitstreaming worked out of the box for me (using MPC HC + FFDShow as I documented here) however I encountered a lot of issue with the picture quality (green blocking, stuttering, etc…). The promise with the Intel platform was to build an HD ready HTPC with full HD Audio bitstream support without the need for adding a separate dedicated graphics card. I have heard of Media Foundation but from what I can see it's only half a solution.When I built my HTPC around the Intel core i5 (Clarkdale) platform this was my first experience with using Intel for graphics (in the past I had used either ATI or NVidia). I'm really curious to know what MS are going to do with Directshow in the future. That applies to DV with or without audio. In actual fact there is no excuse for MS not doing a decent job of implementing DV buffering and seeking since having read the spec for DV standard format it is apparent that every frame is a keyframe (in effect) and always has the exact same size in bytes meaning you could use any number of 'guaranteed' methods to seek through it. Every app I've come across that does it well (Adobe, Nero, Mediaportal) uses its own proprietary buffer engine. My advice to anyone wanting to buffer video other than MPEG2 is write your own filters to do it. I didn't get the MS SBE to work at all and I'd be surprised if anyone else has to be honest. You can jump through a DV graph in this way in small increments (10 seconds or so) until you get to the position you want. In the unlikely event that anyone wanting a solution to seeking buffered DV graphs finds this question: My solution was to create my own buffer graph using a dump filter and IMediaPosition. I have heard of Media Foundation but from what I can see it's only half a solution.
